SSH client · Mac, iPhone, iPad

Shellway

Every server you look after, in one encrypted vault. Connect, move files and forward ports from your Mac, iPhone or iPad, and pick up on the next device where you left off.

Coming to the App Store

What it does

Hosts and groupsUnlimited hosts, organised in groups that share logins and settings. Jump hosts included.
A proper terminalTabs, split panes, snippets and the keyboard shortcuts you expect. Import hosts straight from your ~/.ssh/config.
Files over SFTPBrowse, upload, download and edit files on your servers without leaving the app.
Keys and identitiesGenerate or import SSH keys. Private keys are decrypted in memory only when they're needed to log in.
Port forwardingLocal, remote and dynamic forwards, saved with the host and started in one tap.
Strict host-key checksYou're asked before trusting a new server, and connecting is blocked if a known server's key changes.

Locked down by design

Your hosts, keys, passwords and snippets live in one file that's encrypted on your device before it's saved, using Argon2id and XChaCha20-Poly1305. If you keep it in iCloud Drive, Apple copies the encrypted file between your devices. There's no Shellway server and no account, so there's nothing of yours on my side to lose.

That also means nobody can reset your vault password, me included. Keep it somewhere safe.

Free, with an optional Pro

Hosts, the terminal, files, keys, port forwarding and iCloud sync are free, with no limit on the number of hosts. Shellway Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription, and adds AI command help (using your own Anthropic API key, off by default), broadcast to every pane, and extra terminal themes. On the Mac it also adds an Ansible runner and session recording.
